Happy 25th!

My friend and I celebrated our b-days with a roof top BBQ. They made me wear it. I'm usually not the bunny ears, bathrobe on a saturday afternoon type of girl.



Yeah so the sunglasses stayed on for awhile...it happens. On the plus side, all the cool kids in Korean are doing it...lol. Although I don't think I will ever be able to keep up with Korean fashion. (Korean fashion being super high heels, super short skirts, really conservative tops, huge neon plastic sunglasses, mickey mouse anything, extra long baggy shirts with black leggings, ect. It's weird. Seriously when korean girls dance they're all about wearing the shortest skirts EVER, and it's no big deal...until they show a shoulder, a freakin shoulder! They like freak out, it's sooo weird! I don't get it.

Ok try to say "show a shoulder" three times really fast. It's not easy.

The Friday Walk

Every Friday I get to walk through the farmers market on my way to work. I'm always hoping i don't have to walk through fish guts on my way home. :)

Hot Korean men...haha. So many of them dress like this! It's great!


They kidnapped me and made me drink with them... damn them.

Wondo and beyond

This is one of the beaches we hung out at last weekend. We started at Wondo and then took the ferry to some other random spots.
Good thing to know if your moving to Korea = any city that ends with "do" means it's an island. Although when you say it, it sounds more like "doe"


We stayed at this sweet mein-bok, which is basically a big room with tons of pillows and blankets. Super cheap...and definitely the way to go! We paid like six bucks a person. This is outside of the place...aka the middle of nowhere on a small little island...haha.


This was part of our guided tour of the island. So Danny guess what cops do in Korea? ...Nothing! They give lost girls tours and drive them around to where ever they want to go. Must be rough, huh? Plus they stop and pose for pictures. How can you say no to that?


So basically we haven't seen the sun for a really really really long time! I don't think I've ever been this pale.

Me, sad after some hell bent kimbop shop owner threw a fit cuz we were having a fire on the beach. Apparently it's illegal all over Korea to have a fire on the beach.


p.s. I'm going to try to write 10 blogs in 10 days to make up for my lack of blogging. Sorry I'm a slacker. One down, 9 to go. :)

Chicks in a Bag anyone?

We all had the day off for Children's Day so we decided to make the most of the three day weekend and head up to Seoul to check out the big DJ fest on the river and Seoul National Park. On our way to the Zoo we found this lady...



... Literally selling baby chicks in plastic bags for 1,000 won (about a dollar). You may notice the plastic boxes in the picture which were an addition 5,000 won.



My co-worker told me a lot of the kids buy them. One of my students told me his brother wanted to see if their chick could fly. Since they live in an apartment on the 15th floor you can imagine what happened. Poor little chick!

Korean Culture

Most Koreans are not accustomed to doing this to strangers. They would, however, for relatives, friends, guests.

A traditional Korean greeting is accomplished with a bow, rather than a handshake. Americans should not be overzealous shaking hands.

They work 55+ hrs a week!!
They love to drink alcohol! And consider it rude to pour your own drink.

They think Americans talk too much while eating! They eat first then socialize after.

They don't give or accept things with their left hand.

To steal a child's nose is like flipping someone off.

Welcome to the dark side...

After looking at that last picture I realized my hair pretty much looked like crap...lol.

Since the last time I went the korean salon hand fulls of my hair were falling out and my hair still looked like crap I thought I'd switch it up for my last four months. My hair has NEVER been this dark before! I haven't cried yet but lets put it this way, the day after I get back I will be sitting at the salon for a good four hours and lots of bleach will be needed.

I know, I know, it's just hair, but still!

This is at jimmy's going away party. He had an amazing race style pub crawl...I think the koreans were pretty scared to see a bunch of foreigners literally running through the streets downtown. Mostly because we completely dominate them in size. My team came in second :(

I finally made it to the beach this weekend... the "Hawaii" of Korea. I forgot how peaceful and calming the ocean can be.
