Bulhoesa, Naju ~ Temple Stay

The temple stay was absolutely amazing!

We ate a traditional meal, which was not good...lol. Gross actually, but I still ate it because you're not allowed to waste any food what so ever. You even have to drink the water you clean your bowls with. Ick. Ick Ick Ick! Plus I had to eat seaweed soup, which happens to be my ultimate enemy! That was only the first night.

We had to wake up to pray before a statue of Buddha in the main temple at 4am. This is a little early for me, but since we went to bed at 9 it wasn't too horrible. The part I could have skipped was the one hundred and eight bows with our favorite monk. I would have been down with like 20...lol. I think after 70 I lost count and just kept hoping I didn't fall over. And these weren't little bows, these were all the way down to the ground, knees on the floor, palms to the ground, stand up again bows with no time for a breather in between. So basically I'm out of shape and the monk kicked my ass...lol.

Really though, it was an amazing experience. :)

This was the main temple.

This is where we slept. The floor was heated so I didn't freeze to death. :)

My favorite monk preparing the $300 green tea. The monks make their own tea. I'm not a big tea person, but it was surprisingly really good.

This is where we slept and meditated. We meditated for like 3 hours. No sleeping!

So life has been a little crazy lately with winter intensives. I work from around 9 to 7ish. It doesn't sound too bad, except for the fact that I'm teaching 9 classes! Luckily the classes aren't too long so that helps. Next week I go back to my normal schedule so I'll be able to sleep in again!!! :)

As for this weekend I'm a little nervous... Wanting a taste of the "real" Korean experience I've decided to go on a Buddhist temple stay. I get to wake up at 3:30 chant with the monks, a hundred bows before Buddha, meditation, ect.

Wish me luck. :)

Wonder Girls - Tell Me

I'm back and Thailand was absolutely amazing! As soon as I can put pics up I will. From New Years in Bangkok, to lady boys, to Pattaya's dirty old men with young Thai girls I've got a lot of good stories.

So until pics go up here is another Korean music video to hold you over. This is the most popular (and annoying) song in Korea at the moment. And they play it EVERYWHERE (on the bus, in stores, on TV, ect.)

Enjoy ;)

Vacation!!!

One week of no teaching!!! Yessssss!!!

So I thought I was headed to Japan for new years...weird, my plans changed at the last minute. Unlike Hong Kong however, this is good news! Are you ready..... Bangkok! Suah (probably the nicest person ever) found us tickets to Thailand for only 250,000 won! SOOO CHEAP! We bought the tickets today, and fly out tomorrow night. Sunshine here I come! :)

...And, I get back with just enough time to go and meet our new teacher. Fresh meat, haha. J/K.

Happy New Year!!!

Christmas Party

This picture was taken after a very long day of way too many kids. Chris and I made them watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas...they were of course mad it was in English. Too bad the movie is only 25 minute long...note to self pick a 2 hour flick next time...lol.

During my class the kids got to make Christmas cards. The assignment was to write a Christmas wish on each card to hang on the Christmas tree. I don't think they fully understand what was being asked of them...

"Girls are my life"

"I'll be doctor and I kill you."

"I will earn many money."

Merry Christmas!

So turns out Christmas in Korea is nothing like Christmas at home. Pretty much not even close. I asked the kids what they were doing for Christmas and they all told me they were just going to go play computer games with their friends. Considering the first PC room I went to was full, I guess it's true.

On the bright side I ordered a pizza last night in Korean all by myself! This is a major milestone for me. Annnnd the pizza actually got to the right apartment! Hell ya! I even opened an account at the video store this week with the help of my beloved co-worker Mung-su. Mung-su is my hero! Now I just have to figure out how to get the English subtitles working and I'll be content...at least for another week or so.

K, I'll update pics a.s.a.p. I've got some good ones :)

Eat lots of candy canes for me! I miss you guys!
